Is Online Sports Betting Legal in Texas?

Despite an absolutely enormous sports culture, sports betting is not legal in Texas.
Historically, the Lone Star State has maintained a firm stance against gambling in almost all forms and although there are indications of a change, Texans shouldn’t hold their breath waiting for lawful sports gambling to arrive anytime soon.
However, there are a couple exceptions. While standard sports gambling is not allowed, websites providing daily fantasy sports, such as DraftKings and FanDuel are allowed to operate in the state.
Early in 2019 a state lawmaker registered a new Texas sports betting bill to permit in-person and mobile sports betting and while it looks awesome on paper, it faces a couple of huge challenges. More on that in the next section.
In this guide we’ll Have a deep dip into Texas sports gambling laws to answer:
When will you be able to wager on sports lawfully in Texas?
What is the new Texas sports gambling bill H 1275 about?
How can people in Texas have the ability to bet on sports when it will become legal?
We will also delve into the questions of if it is legal to bet on daily fantasy sports (DFS) at Texas and how the state’s enormous professional and college athletics culture will play into the legal sports gambling industry we will one day see develop in the Lone Star State.

Texas Sports Betting Bill Filed Feb 1, 2019 (H 1275)
On February 1, 2019, Rep. Eddie Lucio III registered H 1275, the first sports betting bill in Texas since the US Supreme Court overturned the decades-old national ban online sports gambling known as PASPA.
We are going to lay the bill’s most important points in a second but first let’s go over the key reasons this bill may have a hard time passing.
To start with, it had been introduced by a Democrat and Texas is a staunchly Republican country. Secondly, for the bill to pass, a referendum to amend the state constitution to add sports gambling must be held. The resolution will need to pass by a two-thirds majority in the House and Senate and be approved in a voter referendum. The oldest that can occur is November, 2019.
Here would be the bill’s most important attributes:
Online and mobile sports betting in Texas is going to be lawful.
A maximum of five permits will be marketed. Each license will allow two online gaming website skins.
Gamblers will cover a 6.25% tax, similar to a revenue tax, on all money payable.
If the bill and resolution to amend the constitution pass, sports gambling will be lawful in Texas on January 1, 2020.
The Recent Sports Betting Situation in Texas
Estimates indicate billions of dollars of tax revenue could be produced from sports gambling legalization and that Texas are the second-biggest sports betting state in the nation.
Even without internet and mobile gambling, it is projected that Texans will wager $9 billion on sports yearly. A 6.25percent tax on these sales would equal more than $500 million.
The urge to access that potential revenue is butting up against a mostly conservative, anti-gambling institution which will make for an interesting dynamic if this bill goes forward.
A prevailing anti-gambling mindset is not the only hurdle this bill will have to clean. As you’ll read below, even if the country wanted to legalize sports betting it would still need to amend its constitution to permit for betting on sports.
All sorts of gambling, with the exclusion of the state lottery and dog and horse racing, is illegal in Texas.
There’s but one tribal casino in the entire state and it’s not allowed to offer casino table games, only slots.
The gaming laws are amazingly rigid from the Lone Star State and bookmaking is a Class A misdemeanor.
Despite sports betting being illegal in Texas, the nation’s most significant sports team, the Dallas Cowboys, have agreed to a sponsorship agreement with WinStar World Casino.
With the deal, the Cowboys became the first NFL team to partner with a casino.
This does not mean legalization is coming soon to Texas, however the state’s flagship sports company inking a significant deal with a casino company is just another part of the puzzle that’s coming together.
Another large factor is that Texas’s neighbors such as New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma either have fully fledged legalized sports betting or have bills in movement to legalize it. That means Texans will have considerable chance to take their billions of dollars and bet it out of state.
Texas Betting Laws Summary
Sports betting is currently illegal in Texas.
A sports gambling bill was introduced in February of 2019 which may take effect on January 1, 2020.
While sports betting is illegal, dog and horse racing are lawful. The state lottery has been around since 1991.
There is one tribal casino in Texas, the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass on the Mexico border.
Daily fantasy sports gambling is legal and DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo! all accept players from Texas.
The History of Online Sports Betting in Texas
There is no real sports gambling background in Texas. The nation has enforced among the nation’s strictest group of anti-gambling laws and it goes far back. Dog and horse racing are legal in Texas, nevertheless gamblers can only place in-person wagers. OTB gambling isn’t permitted.
To Provide the current scenario some context, let’s look at the most pivotal moments in Texas’s gambling history:
1933 – Texas implements its very first Pari-Mutuel horse race betting.
1937 – Four years to the state’s foray into lawful horse racing that the tracks are closed down and gaming on the races is banned.
1971 – Charity gambling is exempted from anti-gambling laws. Two years after this judgment is overturned once more making it illegal .
1982 – Licenses for charitable gaming are legally sanctioned. This required a change to the state constitution in 1980.
1987 – Pari-mutuel horse track betting reunite thanks to a favorable effect in a state referendum. Simulcast betting from outside racetracks is released in 1991.
1988 – Casino Cruises are available which sanction legal gaming as long as they are in international waters. Vessels depart from the Texas shore. Operations lasted for 20 years before shutting down.
1992 – A referendum passes allowing for a state lottery which includes draws and scratch-off games.
1996 — 2002: Tribal/state compacts come to a head as bingo halls and casinos on tribal lands are closed and reopened several times. Only one tribal casino remains to date that’s possessed by the Kickapoo tribe just south of San Antonio near Mexico.
2013 – Lots of bills are introduced to expand gambling in the country but don’t find the light of day. Plans comprised offering video lottery terminals at racetracks and eight state-licensed casinos.
Which Online Betting Sites Are Legal in Texas?
As of now, no online sports gambling websites are lawful. Looking at the current sports gambling bill, nevertheless, it is clear that the future of legal Texas sports gambling will incorporate online and mobile gambling choices.
The Lone Star state is exceptional in that it only has one tribal casino, and it is located near the Texas/Mexico border. It is a fantastic bet that this organization will try to get involved using a land-based sportsbook and an internet betting app.
Other physical infrastructure as far as casinos is infrequent so we anticipate nearly all the actions to occur online.
Like we mentioned before, the WinStar World Casino made a formal deal with the Dallas Cowboys which may be an indicator that it is considering entering the market.
We also expect based online sports gambling sites that are already working in other states to apply for licenses. Including brands such as BetStars, 888sport and many more.
If legalization will happen, check this page for specialist reviews on all the best online sportsbooks in Texas.

The sport gambling legislation that’s now in the works gives us a sign of how things will probably work later on.
In other countries that currently allow online sports betting, the process of registering for an account, depositing cash and placing legal wagers is actually straightforward.
First read reviews of all the best online sports betting websites in Texas, find one you enjoy and then sign up for an account. You can usually make an account from anywhere but you must be in Texas to actually make bets.
You’ll have to provide some personal info and once your account is installed, you can deposit money using lots of popular banking choices. You may frequently get in on particular welcome bonuses and other supplies when you deposit.

Are Daily Fantasy Sports Legal in Texas?
Players can place wagers at favorite DFS gaming websites including FanDuel and DraftKings, however there’s a small legal grey area when it comes to if it is actually legal or not.
While the state does not press charges against everyday fantasy websites, there were ineffective invoices to fully legalize DFS in the past.
The two FanDuel and DraftKings accept Texas players along with the country seems content with allowing this play out in a state of legal flux until it completely believes their next steps on sports betting.
In terms of safety, the Fantasy Sports Trade Association and the US Gaming Commission are responsible for all DFS action so at the close of the day, funds on the websites are 100% protected.
What’s the Future of Online Sports Betting at Texas?
While historically a dark location for lawful gambling, Texas’s potential so far as sports gambling goes is becoming somewhat brighter.
There is still a ways to go but with the introduction of a new bill to legalize sports betting we are beginning to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
Estimates range, but the American Sports Betting Coalition believes legalized sports betting could inject nearly $2 billion dollars to the local market and produce over 9,000 jobs. With Texans already betting on sports illegally and in other nations, new laws may actually have a chance of death.
On the other side of the debate are groups like the General Baptist Convention of Texas that consists of approximately three million Texans. Not only are they contrary to legal sports betting, they wish to eliminate the entire state lottery.
Rob Kohler is a lobbyist for the Baptist Convention and says the tax on sports betting will hurt the poorest people in the country that the most, similar to the lottery.
“It’d create a sales tax blush with its regressivity. So, can it be smart for people to fund our government together with the folks that we are giving money to assist? No,” said Kohler.
However, the State lottery did generate $1.3 billion in 2017 for the nation’s education system. The taxation revenue from sports betting will be even bigger.
Questions Stay for Legal Texas Sports Betting
Whether sports betting is finally legalized in Texas depends on lots of different variables and no one can predict precisely how it’s going to perform.
Our best guess is it is going to happen but it may not be the recent sports gambling bill which gets the job done.
But if all goes perfectly and H 1275 moves with an amendment to the state constitution, Texans would be able to start gambling on sports lawfully as early as January 1, 2020.
The sheer dimensions of the potential industry and gains, literally billions of dollars, is the largest reason we may see this legislation fast-tracked.
Meanwhile, sports bettors in Texas can bet on DFS, or even make the trip to one of a few nearby states that are already legalizing full-on sports betting.
2019 will be a significant year for online sportsbooks in Texas and we’re going to post big developments as they happen on this particular page.

Now, let us find out who the top five selections are to bring home the bacon this coming weekend.

2019 Coke Zero Sugar 400 Odds, Predictions & Picks

Where: Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, FL
When: Saturday, July 6, 2019, green flag at 7:30 PM ET
TV: NBC Sports
Live Stream: NBCSports.com
Odds to Win 2019 Coke Zero 400
Kyle Busch +250
Martin Truex Jr. +400
Kevin Harvick +600
Brad Keselowski +700
Joey Logano +800
Chase Elliott +1000
Denny Hamlin +1600
Clint Bowyer +2000
Ryan Blaney +2000
Kyle Larson +2500
Jimmie Johnson +2500
Kurt Busch +2500
Alex Bowman +2800
Erik Jones +3300
Aric Almirola +3300
Daniel Suarez +6600
William Byron +8000
Austin Dillon +10000
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. +20000
No. 5 Ricky Stenhouse Jr..
I know Stenhouse Jr. sits at an uninspiring 19th place in the NASCAR standings with no wins, one Top 5 finish and two Top 10 finishes, but I think he’s a terrific upset pick to win it all, seeing as he took the checkered flag in this occasion in 2017 while finishing fifth at 2016 and seventh in the 2014 Daytona 500. Stenhouse Jr. has an average finish of 15.31 in Daytona, but he’s got two top 5 finishes in his last six looks at Daytona including that aforementioned victory from the 2017 Coke Zero Sugar 400.

No. 4 Kyle Busch
While Kyle Busch has not undergone a whole lot of success in Daytona, his lone victory on this course did occur at this event in 2008. Along with this, Busch finished second in last year’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 and an identical moment in both, 2006, 2007 and 2016. Busch has also finished fourth at the 2008 Daytona 500 and next at the 2016 Daytona 500. More to the point, Busch, has a season-high four wins this year to cooperate with 10 Top five finishes and an impressive 15 Top 10 finishes in 17 races. Busch is the preferred because of this, even though he is not my best pick to take the checkered flag.

No. 3 Clint Bowyer
I understand the 40-year-old Kansas native is becoming a little long in the tooth, but I like his upset value heading into Daytona for one big reason. Bowyer seems to light up it one this track — in within this event more specifically. Before last year’s 22n location finish, Bowyer finished second, ninth, 10th, ninth and fourth at the prior five Coke 400s. Along with that, Bowyer also finished sixth in the 2006 Daytona 500, 10th in this race in 2006, seventh in 2007, ninth in 2008 and fourth at the 2010 Daytona 500. I enjoy Bowyer to dial back the hands of time to challenge for the win!

No. 2 Austin Dillon
In five career disagrees at Daytona International, Dillon has listed just one win (2018 Daytona 500), a pair of Top 10 finishes and four Top 20 finishes. Dillon finished ninth in this event one year ago, seventh in 2016, the same seventh in 2015 and fifth in 2014. I think the 29-year-old North Carolina native is going to have a fantastic opportunity for the mad, which explains the reason why I have him as my No. 2 choice to win outright.

No. 1 Erik Jones
I know the 23-year-old Michigan native sits at an uninspiring 17t spot at the NASCAR standings with no successes, four Top five finishes and eight Top 10 finishes, but Jones has been pretty incredible if the green flag falls at Daytona. In his past two looks at this course, Jones won this event a year ago and finished third in this year’s Daytona 500. In five career looks at Daytona, Jones has three Top 10 finishes and just finished out of the running twice due to mishaps.

NASCAR at Watkins Glen picks, odds: Kyle Busch going for weekend sweep

Who Chooses the checkered flag as the Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen?

Here are our selections for the last road race of this season.

Winner: Kyle Busch
After shooting his first checkered flag of the season a week at Pocono rowdy is out for blood. After winning his first Xfinity Series race at The Glen on Saturday, Busch will start in the pole on Sunday because he chases his third career win in the track. From our perspective, as long as Busch does not mess or see his engine fail, he must at least finish in the top five.

Contenders: Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr..
We’re not really ready to give up about the 2016 championship runner-up, especially after his second-place finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race. Logano marched his entire Cup crew on Saturday and they did not disappoint. His team knows it’s win or go home, so anticipate the 2015 Watkins Glen winner to take his shot Victory Lane on Sunday. As for Truex Jr., nicely his r??sum?? speaks for itself. The points leader possesses eight top-fives, 14 stage wins, three race wins and a 29 playoff points that are ridiculous. Truex Jr. led the most complete laps in Sonoma in June prior to fighting engine failure with only 25 to proceed. Best believe he hasn’t forgotten about that…

Wild Card: AJ Allmendinger
We’re not very high on the road course expert back at Sonoma, and for good reason. Allmendinger finished 35th, despite almost winning a point in June. This time around we think that it’s going to be different. Despite a run in clinic, Allmendinger’s results at Watkins Glen speak for themselves. Besides a triumph in 2014, he has a normal finish inside the top 10 there. Don’t be surprised if Allmendinger performs spoiler into a driver on the playoff bubble Sunday.

Odds to win the I LOVE NEW YORK 355
Here are the betting odds for Sunday’s race, through VegasInsider.com

Martin Truex Jr. 4/1
Kyle Busch 4/1
Brad Keselowski 8/1
Kurt Busch 17/2
Kevin Harvick 17/2
AJ Allmendinger 10/1
Clint Bowyer 10/1
Denny Hamlin 12/1
Kyle Larson 12/1
Jimmie Johnson 14/1
Joey Logano 18/1
Jamie McMurray 28/1
Chase Elliott 33/1
Ryan Blaney 40/1
Kasey Kahne 40/1
Dale Earnhardt Jr. 50/1
Matt Kenseth 50/1
Daniel Suarez 60/1

NASCAR at Kansas: Vegas odds, key stats, prediction, sleepers, fantasy drivers to watch

Kyle Busch desired to return to some”real” race trail following his loss at Talladega Sunday and this weekend he will get his wish at Kansas Speedway’s 1.5-mile circuit beneath the lights for Saturday night’s Go Bowling 400.

Busch will try to defend his victory from the Kansas spring race on Saturday. He struggled at Kansas but seems to have figured it out recently. He’s logged a top-five end in his last four starts there but is still seeking his first win of this season to clinch a playoff place.

Kevin Harvick has also had recent success at Kansas, finishing first or second in five of his final seven starts while Joey Logano has placed in the top five in six of his last seven starts in the Sunflower State, including two wins.

It is no surprise that the trio of veterans are among the favorites to win Saturday night (7:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1).

Indiana Pacers

Vegas Over/Under: 31.5

The Record Projection: 30-52 of fromal The Bet: Avoid but lean under
Spoiler alert: Losing Paul George is a big deal.
Based on NBA Math’s total points included (TPA) metric, the haul–if you can call it that–brought back in return couldn’t quite match his production during the 2016-17 season. Whereas the superstar small forward finished with 150.42 TPA, Victor Oladipo (minus-58.86 TPA) and also Domantas Sabonis (minus-159.61) dropped a little short.
Of course, the Pacers purchased within these youngsters for their long term potential. They ought to improve during the 2017-18 effort, and the same is the case of Myles Turner, who is a solid bet to become a first-time All-Star throughout the upcoming season. This roster does have some upside down, especially when factoring in Cory Joseph and T.J. Leaf.
However, is that enough to overcome the departures of both George and C.J. Miles? Probably not, which explains exactly why a steep dropoff should be anticipated after the Pacers somehow exceeded expectations to complete with a 42-40 record .
These players will all be studying in featured characters, and losses will happen quite often. But that’s not a terrible thing. Let the up-and-comers develop, maximize the capacity of draft picks during the 2018 prospect pageant and reap the rewards in the future.

Who found when in NJ?
DraftKings Sportsbook has been the first portable platform to start Aug. 1, and it held a monopoly in the marketplace for more than three weeks.
The playMGM sports betting app went on Aug. 22, and also the coming of SugarHouse Sportsbook a day later brought the running count . A week after, both FanDuel Sportsbook and William Hill joined the online sports betting realm.
Caesars added mobile betting on Sept. 6, just in the nick of time for NFL season. The following Monday, 888 Sportsbook appeared at the Marketplace. Then came BetStars, integrating sportsbook performance into its existing PokerStarsNJ platform.
Casinos and racetracks are permitted to create as many as three online partnerships apiece — and several are set up — but they need to have a tangible sportsbook first. Eight NJ casinos and racetracks have retail sportsbooks at the moment.
Here’s the present landscape for both brick-and-mortar sportsbooks and their affiliated online brands:
Resorts Atlantic City and DraftKings Sportsbook
Resorts AC has numerous sports gambling partnerships under its belt. One of them involves DraftKings Sportsbook, which was formally the first to market with an authorized online sports gambling site and program.
The DraftKings sports betting soft-launched on Aug. 1, along with the full launch arrived on Monday, Aug. 6. The program and browser-based online sportsbook are fully operational, offering a vast array of conventional and in-game bets.
In November, DraftKings announced it would function the retail sportsbook inside of Resorts — its very first brick-and-mortar implementation.
Get a peek at the online/mobile stage here.
Resorts and BetStars
Resorts has been the most active of the Atlantic City casinos, clearly the first to use its allotment of three online brands.
Early in August, the casino enlarged its long-standing partnership with The Stars Group to include sports gambling. The group has years of experience with Resorts, offering NJ online poker and casino platforms beneath the PokerStars brand.
BetStars sportsbook started on Sept. 13. Its iOS app started Oct. 20.
SBTech, too Resorts also includes a new venture with B2B heavyweight SBTech. Under its stewardship, the retail sportsbook opened on land in early August.
Resorts launched its self-branded online/mobile platform in January 2019.
Borgata and playMGM
At the Marina District of Atlantic City, the amazing Borgata launched sports betting on land on June 14. A little more than two weeks later, it began offering online wagering via a standalone playMGM sports betting app. Available just on Android, the iOS version went live Oct. 20.
Borgata is using its existing racebook as a temporary, hybrid space on property, but growth is on the horizon. Back in December, MGM stated the land would invest $7 million into a brand new standalone sportsbook. Timeline? Uncertain right now.
Borgata is owned by MGM, which serves up mobile betting in Nevada through playMGM, too. The newest is also available as a NJ online casino, but the products are different for now.
Meanwhile, the MGM has formed partnerships with GVC and Boyd Gaming which will cause additional branded sports gambling apps and sites in multiple states.
Golden Nugget (and SugarHouse, previously)
The Golden Nugget has a few significant partnerships in place, but once more, the implementations aren’t fully clear yet. It does have a land-based sportsbook, however, a permanent space that started just in time for football season.
In May, Churchill Downs announced partnerships with the Nugget and SBTech, charting its route into New Jersey. Whether this really is a turnkey partnership or merely a skin deal (more likely) remains to be seen, and launch isn’t especially imminent — possibly early next year.
The Nugget also needed a deal with Rush Street Gambling, which works the PlaySugarHouse NJ online casino. On Aug. 23, SugarHouse added sports betting to the platform, which makes it the next to get online. The SugarHouse Sportsbook is available statewide on web and mobile devices.
Golden Nugget itself operates live and virtual sportsbooks in Las Vegas, so it likely won’t need to hire a new supplier. It needs to be said, though, that ties into the Houston Rockets will preclude the Nugget from accepting bets on NBA games in New Jersey.
In October, SugarHouse switched partners and tasked with Monmouth Park, likely to escape from under that NBA restriction.
Monmouth Park and William Hill
Monmouth Park started making plans for sports betting back in 2013, securing a partnership with William Hill. The William Hill mobile sports gaming program soft-launched on Sept. 2.
Years after their first union, the land opened the state’s first sportsbook and published the initial legal ticket on June 14. The governor was on site to christen the NJ sports gaming industry and wager on the World Cup.
The partnership amounts to work well for Monmouth Park’s endeavors in the electronic realm. Based in the UK and with a US arm set up, William Hill is richly equipped with tools, and its US team currently works a Nevada sports gaming program. There is no reason to expect anything else in New Jersey.
Monmouth Park and William Hill launched mobile sports gambling last fall.
And SugarHouse
As stated previously, SugarHouse combined the Monmouth Park household in October as a permit spouse.
Meadowlands Racetrack and FanDuel Sportsbook
If you could choose a spot to build an NJ sportsbook, you may select Meadowlands Racetrack.
The property lives from the shadows of MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and Jets. Having a sportsbook near the edge is coveted right now and NJ catches lots of New York traffic. Anticipate fandom and geography to drive busloads of seeing visitors this season.
Like its competitors in Oceanport, Meadowlands is putting together an ambitious program for sports betting. It entered into a long-term partnership with Betfair US, the national arm of Paddy Power Betfair.
In the meantime, PPB acquired daily fantasy sports brand FanDuel to function as the face of its US goods. The FanDuel Sportsbook at the Meadowlands Racetrack opened on July 14.
Much like the retail performance, the online/mobile system is branded as a FanDuel Sportsbook. The product launched on Sept. 1.

Ocean Resort Casino
Down to the Boardwalk, the new Ocean Resort Casino is another place you may bet at the moment.

The bodily sportsbook opened for business in the center of the casino floor on June 28, inhabiting the large footprint of the former nightclub.
Sportsbook surgeries for ORC are powered (and branded) from William Hill US. Mobile sports gambling is available through Ocean too.
Hard Rock Atlantic City
A name change and a renovation have turned into the older Trump Taj Mahal into the gorgeous new Hard Rock AC home just a few strides down the Boardwalk. The resort launched its retail and mobile sports gambling operation in January 2019.
In the grand opening in June, Chairman Jim Allen verified Hard Rock would be in the business of sports betting. You will see its mobile app hit the virtual shelves at the appointed time, whenever that time may come.

Caesars, Bally’s, Harrah’s

NASCAR at Phoenix: Odds, prediction, sleepers, drivers to watch for TicketGuardian 500

Kevin Harvick is off to a slower start than a year ago, but it does not in any way harm how dangerous he’ll probably be at ISM Raceway at Phoenix on Sunday for the TicketGuardian 500.

Harvick has two career wins at the one-mile track and ends in the top 10 in 65.6 percent of his races there. He is undoubtedly the favorite.

However, as good as he is, Kyle Busch cannot be underestimated with two career wins in Phoenix and seven 7s in his past seven races. He has finished in six of the last seven attempts there.

This race will probably be a duel between the two and whoever gets out ahead at the onset of the third stage will be the absolute favorite. This time we are likely to choose Busch to come out the victor, as he might have picked up the win last week had it not been for a speeding penalty on pit road.

The TicketGuardian 500 can be viewed Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

What will be the odds for the TicketGuardian 500?
Kevin Harvick 9/4
Kyle Busch 7/2
