TONY FERGUSON VS. DONALD CERRONE ADDED TO UFC 238

Two of the best lightweights in the world are just about to scrap under a month away, and here are my ideas on this brilliant matchup between two of the most exciting fighters on the UFC roster.
UFC 238 vs. Donald Cerrone, tony Ferguson A lightweight matchup between Tony Ferguson and Donald Cerrone has been added to UFC 238, which takes place June 8 at United Center in Chicago, Illinois. ESPN first reported that the matchup, which arrived together on very short notice after Ferguson was recently cleared to fight again from the UFC, who wanted to beef up its own upcoming PPV crd at Chicago.
Ferguson (24-3) is 14-1 overall from the UFC and is now riding an impressive 11-fight win streak, which is among the longest winning streaks of any active UFC fighter. Ferguson is coming off of a huge TKO win over Anthony Pettis in among 2018’s top fights back in UFC 229, but has not fought in 2019 due to injuries and individual troubles. He had been recently cleared by physicians and from the UFC to return to the cage, and the sport is better off with him as he’s an incredible fighter that always puts amazing fights for its lovers. Ferguson was waiting a very long time to get a title shot at 155lbs but has not got you to this point. But if he could go out there and beat Cerrone in impressive fashion, it would not be possible for the UFC matchmakers to pass on giving him a title shot. With UFC lightweight winner Khabib Nurmagomedov likely fighting interim champ Dustin Poirier in September in UFC 242 to combine the straps, Ferguson could have a fantastic debate to resist the winner of the bout.
Cerrone (36-11, 1 NC) is 23-8, 1 NC from the Octagon and is the winningest fighter in UFC history. Though he’s 36 now, Cerrone is arguably fighting the highest clip of his career to date as he’s coming off of three consecutive upset wins over Mike Perry, Alex Hernandez and Al Iaquinta, the latter two coming from the lightweight division. Though the struggle with Iaquinta happened only last ditch, Cerrone took little harm in that struggle and when the opportunity to fight Ferguson on brief note came up he had to take it. Most of us know Cerrone is always willing to fight anybody, everywhere, so perhaps it’s not surprising to see him struggle Ferguson within just a few weeks, even though it’s going to be a tough fight as Ferguson is a stud.
This is a huge fight, and one which should very popular amongst sports bettors. Though Cerrone has seemed great since moving down to lightweight, he was still the betting underdog in his last and I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be a dog back to Ferguson, who’s on such a long win streak. The oddsmakers agree with me, as they recently opened the odds for the struggle, with Ferguson launching as a -245 favored with all the comeback on Cerrone at +175. I personally believe the line needs to be a bit tighter, but Ferguson deserves to be the betting favourite no matter.

The Latest: Cup Series race at Daytona begins a day late

5:30 p.m.

Justin Haley has won the rain-shortened Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway, his first at NASCAR’s top level.

Haley took the lead under caution – Kurt Busch surrendered the top spot when he pitted for tires – and was announced the winner following heavy rain followed two lightning delays. You will find 33 laps remaining when the 160-lap race has been halted.

Haley was 27th when leader Austin Dillon triggered a 17-car crash which took out nearly half the area and most of the top contenders. He passed a number of wrecked automobiles and then a few more that left pit stops.

The 20-year-old Haley won’t lock at a place in the playoffs, however. He’s a fulltime driver at the second-tier Xfinity Series and has been making his third Cup Series start – all for newcomer Spire Motorsports. The group’s No. 77 Chevrolet could secure a postseason bid, but only if it winds up in the top 30 in points.

However, it was a fitting ending for the closing July race at NASCAR’s most famous track.

The event, which was postponed a day because of rain, has been plagued by inclement weather and full of unpredictable winners in recent years. It’s moving to late August in 2020 – the regular-season finale – included in NASCAR’s major schedule shake-up.

William Byron finished second, followed by seven-time Cup winner Jimmie Johnson and Ty Dillon. Manufacturer Chevrolet won for the second successive week and took the top four spots.

Ryan Newman was fifth in a Ford.

4:30 p.m.

Drivers Bubba Wallace and Daniel Hemric amused lovers during two lightning flaws by throwing a soccer across the track and into the stands.

Wallace and Hemric each had a few errant throws and even got booed a little.

However, it surely gave fans a reason to stay around for more than an hour without any racing.

3:18 p.m.

Lighting has stopped the NASCAR race at Daytona International Speedway with Justin Haley in the lead.

The 20-year-old Haley is a part-time driver for newcomer Spire Motorsports. He finished second in Friday night’s second-tier Xfinity Series race while forcing for Kaulig Racing. This is his third Cup Series start.

Kurt Busch was leading the 400-mile race after a 17-car mess. However, Busch ducked onto pit road for fuel under caution. That left Haley out front, and when the red flag was pulled because of a nearby lightning strike, it left Busch in 18th. As cars were parked and coated on pit road.

3 p.m.

With dark clouds looming and the close of the race in sight, pioneer Austin Dillon wrecked nearly half the area at Daytona International Speedway.

“The Big One” occurred on Lap 119 in Turn 1 and included 17 cars – most of them at the front of the field.

Clint Bowyer was pushing Dillon into front on the exterior and made a tough move left to try to pass the leader. Dillon turned left No. 3 Chevrolet, branded Bowyer and then started spinning and carrying out rivals.

“I guess he did not want me to pass him,” Bowyer said.

All four Joe Gibbs Racing automobiles – Deny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr. and defending race winner Erik Jones – were included. So were Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott.

“I was being aggressive and trying to keep the lead,” Dillon said.” That’s exactly what you get.”

Kurt Busch managed to make it through this melee unscathed.

UFC232 Betting Tips & Plays

Chad Mendes Breakdown: This is a massive step up for Alex Volkanovski and on paper seems to be a terrible matchup. Both fighters are nicely rounded and shine with their wrestling foundations. On the toes the speed and power advantage for Mendes ought to be obvious, where he’ll use his bigger assortment of techniques to inflict the more damaging strikes. In order to gain an edge, volkanovski relies on his wrestling, especially top control. Mendes is the better wrestler both offensively and defensively, never been taken down in his UFC career. Volkanovski was taken down in the past by much lesser fighters, even though he is obviously improving with experience. The durability and layoff queries are the main reasons we are getting such excellent chances on the veteran. It seems to be an obvious choice considering he looked in top shape on the scales. This fight will be action packed and it’s Mendes with more resources to get the finish or stand up control and damage to impress the judges.
Bet = Mendes in 1.70 (-143) odds. Risk 4 Units to acquire 2.8 Units.

UFC ST. PETERSBURG SHAPING UP WITH ALISTAIR OVEREEM VS. ALEXANDER VOLKOV

The Octagon heads to Yubileyny Sports Palace at St. Petersburg, Russia on April 20 for UFC Fight Night 149, along with the card is Now Beginning to shape up.

Though the UFC has not formally announced the following bouts, various media sources have reported themand it’s expected the UFC makes them official shortly. Here are my ideas on the first three known fights for UFC St. Petersburg.
Alistair Overeem vs. Alexander Volkov, UFC Fight Night 149
The main event of UFC Fight Night 149 is scheduled for a five-round heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov. Denis Geyko broke the information. Overeem (44-17, 1 NC) is 9-6 overall at the UFC and is coming off of a TKO win over Sergey Pavlovich. Volkov (30-7) is currently 4-1 at the UFC and is coming from a shocking last-second KO loss to Derrick Lewis. Prior to this he was on a six-fight win series and was nearing title contention. Had Volkov lasted just 10 more seconds against Lewis he probably would have been battling for a name by now. I’m hoping people forget just how near Volkov was to winning this fight, and maybe he will be the puppy here against Overeem since he’s coming off of a knockout win. I just don’t think Overeem’s chin can be reliable contrary to a long, lanky and potent striker such as Volkov, and I lean towards the Russian within this one.
Sergey Pavlovich vs. Marcelo Golm, UFC Fight Night 149
A fun heavyweight fight between Sergey Pavlovich and Marcelo Golm will even occur with this card. Via MMADNL, Igor Lazorin broke news. Pavlovich (12-1) was undefeated as a pro with most of his wins coming by knockout until he himself was pumped out by Overeem in his UFC debut. That was too much of a step up for Pavlovich and the UFC is eventually offering him a more favorable matchup in his home nation. Golm (6-2) finished Christian Colombo in his Octagon debut but has since lost decisions to Arjan Bhullar and Tim Johnson. Golm just has not been notable at the UFC whatsoever and although Pavlovich did not look great against Overeem he has many benefits in this particular fight. I expect the Russian for a fairly big favorite to receive his hand raised as a outcome.
Roxanne Modafferi vs. Antonina Shevchenko, UFC Fight Night 149
And lastly, women’s flyweights Roxanne Modafferi and Antonina are put to battle at this event. MyMMANews.com broke the fight . Modafferi (22-15) is 1-3 overall in the UFC and is coming off of a decision loss to Sijara Eubanks. She’s had a tiny career revival since going down to flyweight, but is obviously at an athletic disadvantage in this matchup. Shevchenko (7-0) is the sister of UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko and she is so far 1-0 from the Octagon with a decision win over Ji Yeon Kim. This is a very favorable matchup for Shevchenko over somebody who can’t match her at the striking and that I expect her to acquire a very clear choice in this one. Look for her to be a large favorite to collect the win.

Is Online Sports Betting Legal in Texas?

Despite an absolutely massive sports culture, sports betting is not legal in Texas.
Historically, the Lone Star State has maintained a firm stance against gaming in almost all types and although there are indications of a change, Texans shouldn’t hold their breath waiting for legal sports gambling to arrive anytime soon.
However, there are a couple exceptions. While standard sports betting is not permitted, websites providing daily fantasy sports, such as DraftKings and FanDuel are allowed to operate in the state.
Early in 2019 a state lawmaker filed a new Texas sports betting bill to allow in-person and cellular sports betting and while it looks awesome on paper, it confronts a few huge challenges. More importantly in another section.
In this guide we will take a deep dive into Texas sports betting laws to answer:
When are you going to be able to wager on sports lawfully in Texas?
What is the new Texas sports gambling bill H 1275 about?
How will people in Texas be able to wager on sports if it will become legal?
We will also delve into the questions of if it is lawful to bet on daily dream sports (DFS) at Texas and how the state’s enormous professional and college sports culture will play to the legal sports betting industry we will one day see grow from the Lone Star State.

Texas Sports Betting Bill Filed Feb 1, 2019 (H 1275)
On February 1, 2019, Rep. Eddie Lucio III filed H 1275, the first sports betting bill in Texas since the US Supreme Court overturned the decades-old federal ban on sports gambling known as PASPA.
We are going to lay out the bill’s most important points in a minute but first let’s discuss the key reasons this bill can have difficulty passing.
First of all, it was released by a Democrat and Texas is a staunchly Republican state. Second, for the bill to pass, a referendum to amend the state constitution to add sports betting has to be held. The settlement will have to pass with a two-thirds majority in the House and Senate and be approved in a voter referendum. The oldest that can occur is November, 2019.
Here would be the bill’s most important features:
Online and mobile sports gambling in Texas will be lawful.
A maximum of five permits will be marketed. Each license will permit two online betting site skins.
Gamblers will pay a 6.25% tax, very similar to a revenue tax, on all money wagered.
If the bill and resolution to amend the constitution pass, sports gambling will be legal in Texas on January 1, 2020.
The Current Sports Betting Situation at Texas
Estimates indicate countless dollars of tax revenue could be generated from sports betting legalization which Texas would be the second-biggest sports gambling state in the nation.
Even without internet and mobile gambling, it is projected that Texans will bet $9 billion on sports yearly. A 6.25percent tax on these sales would equal more than $500 million.
The desire to access that potential earnings is butting up against a largely conservative, anti-gambling institution which will result in an interesting dynamic if this bill moves ahead.
A prevailing anti-gambling mindset is not the only hurdle this bill will have to clear. Since you’ll read about below, even if the country wanted to legalize sports betting it would still need to amend its constitution to allow for betting on sports.
All types of gaming, with the exception of this state lottery and horse and dog racing, is illegal in Texas.
There’s but one tribal casino in the entire state and it’s not permitted to provide casino table games, only slots.
The gaming laws are amazingly rigid from the Lone Star State and bookmaking is a Class A misdemeanor.
Despite sports betting being prohibited in Texas, the nation’s biggest sports team, the Dallas Cowboys, have agreed to a sponsorship arrangement with WinStar World Casino.
With the deal, the Cowboys became the first NFL team to associate with a casino.
This doesn’t mean legalization is coming shortly to Texas, no matter how the country’s flagship sports company inking a major deal with a casino company is another part of the puzzle that is coming together.
Another large element is that Texas’s neighbors such as New Mexico, Louisiana, and Oklahoma have fully fledged legalized sports betting or have bills in motion to legalize it. That means Texans will have considerable chance to take their billions of dollars and bet it out of state.
Texas Betting Laws Summary
Sports betting is currently illegal in Texas.
A sports gambling bill was released in February of 2019 which may take effect on January 1, 2020.
While sports betting is illegal, horse and dog racing are legal. The state lottery has been around since 1991.
There is one tribal casino in Texas, the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass to the Mexico border.
Daily fantasy sports gambling is lawful and DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo! all accept players from Texas.
The History of Online Sports Betting in Texas
There is no real sports gambling background in Texas. The state has enforced among the country’s strictest group of anti-gambling laws and it goes far back. Dog and horse racing are lawful in Texas, nevertheless gamblers can simply put in-person wagers. OTB betting is not permitted.
To give the present situation some context, let us look at the most pivotal moments in Texas’s gambling history:
1933 – Texas implements its very first Pari-Mutuel horse race betting.
1937 – Four years to the country’s foray into lawful horse racing that the tracks are closed down and gaming on the races is banned.
1971 – Charity gaming is exempted from anti-gambling laws. A couple of years after this judgment is overturned once more making it illegal .
1982 – Licenses for charitable gaming are legally sanctioned. This took a change to the state constitution in 1980.
1987 – Pari-mutuel horse track betting reunite thanks to a favorable effect in a state referendum. Simulcast betting from external racetracks is introduced in 1991.
1988 – Casino Cruises are available which sanction legal gambling as long as they are in international waters. Vessels depart from the Texas coast. Operations lasted for 20 years before shutting down.
1992 – A referendum passes allowing for a state lottery that includes draws and scratch-off games.
1996 — 2002: Tribal/state compacts come to a mind as bingo halls and casinos on tribal lands are closed and reopened several times. Just one tribal casino remains to date which is owned by the Kickapoo tribe just south of San Antonio near Mexico.
2013 – Lots of bills are introduced to expand gambling in the country but do not find the light of day. Plans comprised offering video lottery terminals at racetracks and eight state-licensed casinos.
Which Online Betting Sites Are Legal in Texas?
As of this moment, no internet sports betting websites are lawful. Taking a look at the present sports betting bill, nevertheless, it is apparent that the future of authorized Texas sports gambling will include online and mobile betting options.
The Lone Star state is exceptional as it only has one tribal casino, and it is situated near the Texas/Mexico border. It is a fantastic bet that this organization will try to become involved using a land-based sportsbook and an online betting app.
Other physical infrastructure as far as casinos is infrequent so we expect the majority of the actions to occur online.
Like we mentioned previously, the WinStar World Casino made an official deal with the Dallas Cowboys which can be an indicator that it is interested in entering the market.
In addition, we expect established online sports gambling sites which are already operating in other states to apply for licenses. This includes brands such as BetStars, 888sport and many more.
If legalization will happen, check this page for expert reviews on all the best online sportsbooks in Texas.

The sport betting legislation that’s now in the works gives us an indication of how things will likely work in the future.

Are Daily Fantasy Sports Legal in Texas?
Players can place wagers at favorite DFS gaming websites including FanDuel and DraftKings, but there is a bit of a legal gray area in regards to whether it’s really valid or not.
While the state does not press charges against daily fantasy sites, there were unsuccessful invoices to fully legalize DFS in the past.
Both FanDuel and DraftKings take Texas players along with the country seems content with allowing this play out at a country of legal flux until it completely believes their next steps on sports gambling.
Concerning safety, the Fantasy Sports Trade Association and the US Gaming Commission are responsible for many DFS action so at the close of the day, funds on the websites are 100% protected.
What’s the Future of Online Sports Betting in Texas?
While a dark place for lawful gambling, Texas’s potential as far as sports gambling goes has gotten a bit brighter.
There’s still a ways to go but with the introduction of a new bill to legalize sports gambling we are starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
Estimates range, but the American Sports Betting Coalition considers legalized sports betting could inject almost $2 billion dollars to the local economy and create over 9,000 jobs. With Texans already gambling on sports and in different nations, new laws may actually have a chance of passing.
On the opposite side of the debate are groups like the General Baptist Convention of Texas that is made up of approximately three million Texans. Not only are they contrary to legal sports gambling, they want to get rid of the entire state lottery.
Rob Kohler is a lobbyist for the Baptist Convention and says the proposed tax on sports betting will hurt the weakest people in the country that the most, similar to the lottery.
“It would make a revenue tax blush with its regressivity. So, is it smart for us to fund our government with all the people that we are giving money to assist? No,” said Kohler.
However, the State lottery failed to create $1.3 billion in 2017 for the state’s education system. The taxation revenue from legal sports betting will be even larger.
Questions Remain for Legal Texas Sports Betting
Whether sports betting is eventually legalized in Texas depends on lots of different factors and no one can predict exactly how it’s likely to perform.
Our best guess is it will occur but it might not be the recent sports gambling bill which gets the work done.
But if everything goes perfectly and H 1275 passes with a change to the constitution, Texans will have the ability to get started betting on sports lawfully as early as January 1, 2020.
The sheer size of the possible industry and gains, literally tens of thousands of dollars, is the largest reason we may see this legislation fast-tracked.
Meanwhile, sports gamblers in Texas can bet on DFS, or make the trip to one of a few nearby states which are already legalizing full-length sports betting.
2019 will be a significant year for internet sportsbooks in Texas and we’ll post big developments as they occur on this page.
Additionally, browse our state by state guides to legal sports betting in the US for more information on different areas of the country.
