MMA ODDS AND ENDS FOR THURSDAY: NEW UFC FIGHT ANNOUNCEMENTS INCLUDES DAVID TEYMUR VS. CHARLES OLIVEIRA

The UFC continued to announce a range of fresh bouts for its forthcoming cards. Here are the new matchups, together with my first thoughts on these.
David Teymur vs. Charles Oliveira, UFC Fight Night 144
Lightweights David Teymur and Charles Oliveira will fight at UFC Fight Night 144, occurring February 2 at Centro de Forma????o Ol??mpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil. Teymur (8-1) is 5-0 at the UFC and in his last excursion defeated Nik Lentz. He has had trouble getting competitions to fight himas he’s very dangerous but not rated from the top-15. Oliveira (25-8, 1 NC) is 13-8, 1 NC from the UFC and is coming from a three-fight win series, including a submission win over Jim Miller in his last struggle. As great as Oliveira is on the ground, this looks like the sort of matchup that’s kryptonite for him against a much-better striker in Teymur who also has exceptional takedown defense. Because of this, I would really favor Teymur inside this fight.
Junior Albini vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik, UFC Fight Night 144
Because of an accident to Dmitry Sosnovskiy, Junior Albini will take on short-notice replacement Jarizinho Rozenstruik in UFC Fight Night 144. DWT broke the news. Albini (14-4) is 1-2 in the UFC and dropped to Aleksiy Oleinik via Ezekiel choke in his last struggle. Rozenstruik (6-0) has won five of his battles with strikes except for his one appearance at RIZIN, which he won a determination in. Most bettors will look to fade Albini, however it is difficult to say if this is the ideal place to fade him in as Rozenstruik is quite unproven against a decent level of competition.
Rani Yahya vs. Ricky Simon, UFC 234
Bantamweights Rani Yahya and Ricky Simon are set to battle UFC 234, occurring February 10 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. Combate broke the news. Yahya (26-9, 1 NC) is currently 11-3, 1 NC from the UFC and has won seven of his last eight battles complete. He’s a really underrated fighter and with a win here should land a top-10 opponent. Simon (14-1) is currently 2-0 in the UFC and is riding a seven-fight win series in general. Yahya has all of the experience but Simon has lots of upside and I’d rather go with the younger fighter inside this spot.
Sam Alvey vs. Gadzhimurad Antigulov, UFC Fight Night 145
Light heavyweight action between Sam Alvey and Gadzhimurad Antigulov will happen at UFC Fight Night 145, on February 23 in O2 Stadium in Prague, Czech Republic. Igor Lazorin broke the news. Alvey (33-11, 1 NC) is 10-6 in the UFC and was recently knocked out by Antonio Rogerio Nogueria. Antigulov (20-5) is 2-1 at the UFC but endured a KO loss to Ion Cutelaba in his last fight. This ought to be a true banger of a fight but I have to fade Alvey inside this spot and go with Antigulov, although I’m expecting a close line in any event.
Cezar Ferreira vs. Tom Breese, UFC Fight Night 147
Due to an injury to Alessio di Chirico, Cezar Ferreira has stepped up to fight Tom Breese in UFC Fight Night 147, which takes place March 16 in the O2 Arena in London, England. Ferreira (13-7) is 9-5 overall from the UFC but is coming off of a disappointing decision loss to Ian Heinisch. Breese (11-1) is 4-1 in the UFC and blasted Dan Kelly in his UFC middleweight debut. Ferreira is a good fighter but I don’t trust his brow against a powerful puncher like Breese, that I hope to be greatly preferred within his home country.

MMA And Sports Betting: A Match Made In Heaven — And Las Vegas

At UFC 235 last weekend in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, veteran welterweight fighter Robbie Lawler nearly pounded former Olympic wrestler and 2/1 favorite Ben Askren into a first-round TKO victory. However Askren, making his first UFC look, managed to endure Lawler’s early onslaught of body and head shots, and about two minutes later, at 3:20 in the initial round, completed the comeback, ending it with a bulldog choke.
Respected referee Herb Dean saw Lawler’s arm dangle limp while he tried to extricate himself in the choke, causing Dean to halt the struggle in what goes down as a entry win for Askren. While controversial and unlucky for Lawler (and his backers), it was understandable, and the popular Lawler immediately turned from aggrieved to praising Dean and expressing his comprehension (transcript here.)
The NFL is the king of U.S sports betting, but combined martial arts provides something different, in some ways much better and more intriguing, and really controversial at times, like each game. Certain events, even for a somewhat niche sport now in its first year of a distribution deal on ESPN platforms, can create the gambling handle seen in an excellent NFL game.
“Everyone understands a fight”
Exposure to more mainstream audiences through ESPN and FOX Sports 1, through an earlier deal, continues to increase MMA’s profile. To get for point, UFC and other promotions such as Bellator have embraced and understood the engagement value of sports gambling.
“The UFC has been on the forefront of sport wagering content,” Jason Simbal, vice president of risk management for CG Technology, told Sports Handle. “They embraced it by including chances on the websites on telecasts. And the announcers will mention the betting favorites throughout the conflicts. Also they have their own produced gaming show which airs before each pay-per-view on UFC Fight Pass, which helps.”
The PGA Tour, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, and National Hockey League alike have”evolved” since the Supreme Court struck down the 1992 federal ban on full-fledged sports wagering outside Nevada. Every one of the commissioners of these leagues now tout the virtues of increased engagement anyhow sports wagering, manufacture new monetization opportunities, and delight in the ones that have already come.
However, while every one of those leagues, especially MLB, seek to build new sports betting bridges using proprietary Statcast characters, as an instance, there’s no learning curve to begin gambling on combined martial arts.
“I think it comes down to it turned into a struggle. And what I mean by that is that if you are managing a lot of different sports, you are dealing with a lot of variables, the nuances of soccer, baseball, basketball,” veteran MMA writer-reporter Damon Martin told Sports Handle. “And there is a guttural instinct in everyone when it comes down to it.

Portland Trail Blazers: 40-1

There are a few key differences between the Portland Trail Blazers and the just-covered Raptors, and hardly any of them provide aid for Rip City’s better odds.
The Blazers were thin last year, buttressing a elite starting five with next to nothing off the bench. Bringing in Chris Kaman and Steve Blake doesn’t feel like a Fantastic remedy.
Of course, second-year shield C.J. McCollum needs to see his role increase this year, and he’s got the combo-guard skills to produce an impact. Head coach Terry Stotts is apparently leaning toward him as a sixth man; McCollum led all Blazers reserves in minutes per game during the preseason.
For all this, it’s hard to grasp why Portland is seen as a bigger name threat than Toronto. The Blazers’ convention is harder, their bench is still thinner and they ended the year at only 23-19 following a start. Portland is a fantastic group, but it may not be much more than that.
It’ll be up to Damian Lillard, LaMarcus Aldridge and the rest of the starters to duplicate that fifth-ranked offensive evaluation. If they can not do this, imagine defense and an underwhelming chair may finally hit one of last year’s biggest surprises having a painful dose of truth.

New York Knicks

This summer will ascertain whether this ranking is far too high or laughably low. For now, that means it should be just perfect.
The’Bockers are a blank canvas. The Kristaps Porzingis deadline deal erased all long-term commitments. Their greatest guaranteed salary for next season is Frank Ntilikina’s $4.9 million. No dream is too large for the Knicks right now. As Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale broke down, it is not impossible to discover a situation in which Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis all call Madison Square Garden house next year.
Is it likely? Not in the least. But when the Knicks have their built-in market advantages, plus plenty of cap room and a good shot at securing the No. 1 choice, that’s an army of assets most clubs will struggle to match.
Of course, there’s also an floor to consider.
Cap space might not imply Irving or Durant. Maybe it’s Kemba Walker and Khris Middleton. Perhaps it’s no one. Considering that the revamped lottery chances, the Knicks may end up drafting fourth or fifth. So, instead of Zion Williamson (and a possible path to Davis), maybe the draft haul is just Cam Reddish or Jarrett Culver.
New York has some childhood set up, although its potential remains in flux. While Mitchell Robinson appears ahead of schedule and Allonzo Trier has been a huge surprise, Kevin Knox looks predictably raw. Moreover, Dennis Smith Jr. is far from a sure thing, and Ntilikina’s prognosis is cloudy at best.
